Essay I did for ABU

Asian-pacific Broadcast Union had this TV show/documentary that was interviewing potnetial students that could go to mongolia for a study on desertification; i tried out, and made a simple essay that i found enjoyable to write ( don't really know why) and well, I got picked as a national representative, pretty nifty aint it? so i'l just post it here to see if other people found my death as amusing as the producers of ABU.

ABU Program application interview essay* about desertification
Topic: Desertification, Directions: Write a 1-2 page essay about the Earth in 2030

"Desertification is land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas resulting mainly from adverse human impact.” –United Nations Environment Programme, 1992

…Present day: 2030AD. Travel Diary Excerpt #1129 from my travels, Location: Only God knows
When I close my eyes, I see the sand, an infinite amount of miniscule particles that are spread out everywhere, up to the horizon of my vision. Winds shifting the sands make waves that in turn, form numerous and countless dunes that have covered the land over the ages; they are quite literally, the sands of time. This… is breath-taking: a land where there is nothing but a pale sky with a threatening ball of fire that brings forth the unbearable heat that annihilates everything, except the land itself. This is the most terrifying vision of nature to behold. When I open my eyes, they are temporary blinded, a relief from horror, until my eyes focus again to view the abysmal but real world that exists in front of my open eyes. This place, the desert, is the not the Sahara, the Arabian, nor the Gobi Desert, this is the Desert of Earth. …(Continued below)

2007-05-05, MySpace Log #53, My room
I am at my computer, playing games and minding my own business, just like everyone else in the world. My midterms are finished, I took my SATs today, cleaned my room, and walked my dog; there is nothing that worries me now. There is not a care in the world that I need to be concerned about now. I’m pretty tired and exhausted at taking care of these affairs now, and so I think I will go to sleep soon, just like the world. Tomorrow, I think I’ll go to the theaters with my friends and watch the new Spiderman 3 movie and also go to the bookstore to buy a new book, and I’m looking forward to it. It sounds like I planned a good future, just like everyone else in the world. Good-bye world.

Year 2010, Journal Entry #18 for Current Events Class at ○○○ College
There are many current events of the world that are prevailing in our contemporary world today. Such are the incessant issue with global warming, the inauguration of the US’s first lesbian president, the cure for the common cold, and the final reunification of Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. However, today I would like to focus my entry about the most pressing matter of the world today. I speak none other than the current process of Desertification. Everyone has known about this global threat, especially ever since the sudden diffusion of the deserts from central Asia. In our past, we were ignorant to the world’s obvious problems and worries, and could no have prevented this. We were lazy and procrastinative, being tired from the worlds affairs at that time, and just gave up on our efforts towards the environment. We were stupid and foolish, not planning a decent and long-termed beneficial future for our later generations, because of this, we are now suffering. If we have acted then, we could have prevented it, but we did not. Our only hope now lies in our future development of science which will hopefully negate the influence humans have had on the world, as we have always did with our past unsolved problems.

06/06/2020, Travel Diary Excerpt #1 of my journey. Location: United Korea
Today is the beginning, the renewal of hope, and the solution for the world against the fight of Desertification. The nations of the world and humanity itself have united to fight our common enemy, and I have join the organization and today is the day I leave my country to go to war. The forces of the opposition have already reached my country, and have caused the complete evacuation of Seoul. I hope that in joining the war, I hope to make a difference and come back home, to find my home country, and other’s home countries to be restored back to their glory. The new technology that has been invented last year shows great promise and hope; I believe we can finally meet the end to this.

2029AD, Travel Diary Excerpt #1000 of my travels. Location: Former Desert of Asia
We have finally met the end. All is lost. The solution was useless, our hopes and dreams for this technology was faulted and idiotic. We have made a severe mistake and thought the enemy was desertification. We humans are the enemy, we have created this process, we have adulterated and provoked nature; we are to blame for all this. People say that our world will soon turn into the second Mars; our civilization is gone, buried under the sand, nothing to show for the life that was flourished in our planet. I only have this diary to leave a trivial impression of life on this desert of an earth now.

…Present day: 2030AD. Travel Diary Excerpt #1129 from my travels, Location: Only god knows
(Continued)… This probably going to be my last passage, for I am forsaken at a desolate place, where I cannot escape, even in my dreams. There is nothing left, no food, no water, no friends, no cities, no home, no nothing. There is only the hope that in our next world, humanity did not already ruin it. I am highly doubtful though.

*The following above was a theoretical and fictional perspective of our future and no events and facts are verified nor confirmed; let’s keep it that way.
